Lipped drop in anchors can be accurately set independant of thehole depth and can be used in non-cracked concrete. The lip allows the anchor to sit flush against the surface, preventing the anchor from being inserted too far. Full expansion can be guaranteed by using the correct shouldered setting punch.

Applications:

  • Light to heavy-duty into solid concrete.
  • Mechanical and electrical services
  • Suspension systems (ceilings)
  • Cable Trays
  • Signs
  • Hand rails

Advantages:

  • Flush fitting with no protrusion when not in use
  • Shallow embedment, hence less chance of drilling into rebar, and er drilling
  • Removal of fixture leaves anchor undisturbed
  • Setting tool stamp marks to indicate complete expansion
  • Visual expansion check with setting tool
  • Permanent anchorage point in solid concrete, brick or masonry
  • Can be used with all types of bolts, screws and studs

Installation:

  1. Drill a hole in the concrete using a hammer drill and a carbide tipped masonry drill bit, matching the bit size with the outside diameter of the drop-in anchor being used. Make sure the hole depth exceeds the minimum embedment (around 5%)
  2. Drill the correct diameter hole and depth.
  3. Clear the hole of all debris with a brush and blow out pump.
  4. Push the anchor into the hole until it is flush with the surface of the concrete.
  5. Insert the relevant setting tool of the same diameter as the anchor until it makes contact with the cone. Use a hammer to drive the setting tool into the anchor – stop hammering when the expander shoulder rests against the anchor or when it is blocked (in hard concrete).
  6. Tighten to the recommended torque using a torque wrench.

Bolt Length:

When the drop-in anchor is set flush with the base material, the minimum bolt length required equals the internal thread length of the anchor, plus the thickness of the material to be ened, plus the thickness of any washers to be used.

If the anchor is set deeper into the concrete, adjust the length accordingly, by adding the additional depth to the minimum anchor length.

Anchor Spacing:

The forces on a Drop-In Anchor are transferred to the material in which it is installed. If the anchors are installed too close together, it can cause an interaction of the forces, thus reducing the holding power of the anchors. Minimum spacing between anchors and minimum edge distances for the concrete drop-in anchor are as follows:
