The Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, often simply called the "Zero," is one of the most famous Japanese aircraft of World War II. Designed by Jiro Horikoshi, the A6M2 Zero was introduced in 1940 and quickly became renowned for its agility, speed, and long range. With a lightweight design and powerful engine, it outperformed many Allied fighters early in the war. The Zero's dominance was evident during the attack on Pearl Harbour and the subsequent Pacific campaigns, where it achieved an impressive kill ratio. However, as the war progressed, its initial advantages were overshadowed by the development of more advanced Allied aircraft and improved tactics. The Zero’s lack of armour and self-sealing fuel tanks made it vulnerable in extended combat. Despite these shortcomings, the Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero remains a symbol of Japanese engineering prowess and is remembered for its significant impact on aerial combat during World War II.
